MEDIA IS CHEAP. INVEST IN YOUR CREATIVITY.
You would think that given all the free information and entertainment floating around in space, traditional broadcasters and publishers would be wandering around empty studios mumbling, “Dude, where’s our audience.” But surprisingly, the companies most impacted by all-the-time, free news and entertainment are actually embracing the change.
A recent article in the OnLine Media Post indicates that, “During the fourth quarter, brands saw average video viewing time double to just over two minutes, as the overall number of views also doubled. This suggests marketers are improving the quality of their content and connecting with receptive audiences, according to the latest quarterly study from Web video ad and analytics firm TubeMogul and video provider Brightcove.”
In addition, traditional media providers including broadcasters and newspaper publishers, industries that are getting hammered hardest by Web content, are actually leveraging the new media technologies and platforms and as a result have upped their viewership to 1.7 billion and 1.2 billion minutes streamed respectively. Yep – that’s billions of minutes which, when you think about it, is amazing because you have to figure that every minute their customers watch on-line is one less minute they have to spend using their primary products; namely newspapers and appointment TV. These industries are literally competing with themselves and winning!
Bottom line: the print media and traditional broadcasters have not only moved content to the internet, the content they’re creating is holding their viewer’s attention longer. It is – in a word – BETTER.
This should obviously come as no surprise to anyone, as we all know where the world gets its information and entertainment today. But the point is – if the media “dinosaurs” that have a huge stake in preserving their traditional, core businesses are cranking out good, solid content for their websites – YOU should too. You might even create a real show by accident…or on purpose. Check this article from Media Post.
You can produce your own show under the guise of advertising. Call it Entertainment Advertising. Okay, not too unique but it describes the concept. The technology to produce high-quality programming is easily available and the cost has come down considerably. Talent is everywhere and it’s eager to work – writers, actors, photographers, editors are out there – and in here.
Every business needs to consider and ultimately create video content for their websites – it’s no longer optional, it is mandatory.
Because the last thing any business wants to look like is – a newspaper…including a newspaper!
